Mohammad Asghar AM has called on the Welsh Government to ensure its Digital Competence Framework for schools includes online safety lessons.
Digital competence is a framework of skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable the confident, creative and critical use of technologies and systems. It is the skill set that enables a person to be a confident digital citizen, to interact and collaborate digitally, to produce work digitally and to be confident in handling data and problem solving.
Speaking during questions to the First Minister today, Mohammad Asghar said:
“Online social media platforms can be used by offenders to make contact with children who are unaware of the sinister intentions which may lie behind a seemingly innocent exchange.”
“The NSPCC has called for online safety lessons to become part of the curriculum so children can recognise the signs of this behaviour and its dangers.”
“I am calling on the Welsh Government to ensure that online safety lessons will form part of the digital competence framework.”
